Austin Lathrop

Period 3

My epic

I love my job. I don’t need to work for my money I just take it from other people. When I see someone wearing something nice I decide, I want it and take it. My house is close to the spot where I hunt for my valuables. it’s a major underground route. I spy in the hollowed out tree of my house. I scout from the branches in my tree using a telescope. I don’t enjoy to kill my victims I just like to stick to my business then let them pass.

I live in this house with my father, who too was a great theif. He taught me everything I know. But he is deathly ill and I am trying to steal the most valuable thing I can to get him into the city to maybe see a doctor.

While scoping the entrance something caught my eye, something so beautiful, so sparkling, this gem could easily buy our way into the city 3 times over. This might be a challenge for the worlds greatest thief, yes that’s me. This would be a tricky task because the woman bearing this charm has two bodyguards escorting her down the trail.

I enter my house and grab my scoped cross-bow to breakdown the wagon. I mounted it on the branch and stared to aim. I held my breath and took the shot, which got caught in the wheel spoke and wrecked the wagon, stranding my prey. It was getting dark, which was perfect for me.

All I had to do now was to take out the two guards then steal the amulet. I got my dagger ready, I was dressed in all black so I blended into the darkness behind me.

One guard was fixing the wagon, while one was sitting with the girl. I approached the guard fixing the wheel, I grabbed him and put my hand over his mouth as hard as I could to prevent the other from hearing him. I tied him up and pulled him off to the side to prevent him from interfering.

The rustle of the leaves while I dragged him caught the attention of guard 2. He jumped out of the wagon, and stood there looking up at the sky waiting for something. I was hiding behind a tree just watching him, waiting for a chance to strike.

Then the clouds cleared, revealing the full moon. Then the guard started to transform, into a beast. I thought those were just legends until I seen it with my own two eyes. The guard next to me that was tied up also started to transform, when I took my dagger and slit his throat to prevent further conflict.,

The other one was sniffing me out and knew exactly where I was. I got my dagger ready to strike behind the tree. When the werewolf jumped to my right and I screamed as it jumped on me. I managed to wrestle it around and get some punches on it, when it tried to bite me. I flipped back, jumping to my feet and picked up my blade. It started to run at me and I stuck out my dager and pierced its heart. I ripped my blade out and cut its head off.

I used my sleeve to wipe the blood off my blade. I ran towards the carriage when the lady ripped open the top, she had transformed into a vampire with wings because of that amulet. It was magical, and I needed it. She laughed at me and tried to fly at me when it got shot in the wing with an arrow. Then it got shot in the head but did not die.

It was my father who shot the beast and brought it to its knees when I ran over to finish it off. I wiped out my blade and stabbed it in the heart 3 times to assure the creature was dead.

Then I took the amulet and ran back to my father.

“Boy do you have any idea how much thath thing is worth and what it can do?” said my father

“No I just thought it would help us with our finances to help u feel better.” I said.

“This thing can heal me, I have read about this magical amulet and if I break it open, the shattered remains can heal my wounds.” my father explained.

So I did as my father said and it healed him solving our economic problems. So now I can live in peace and I don’t have to ruin other peoples lives.

Morning After

by Langston Hughes

I was so sick last night I
Didn’t hardly know my mind.
So sick last night I
Didn’t know my mind.
I drunk some bad licker that
Almost made me blind.

Had a dream last night I
Thought I was in hell.
I drempt last night I
Thought I was in hell.
Woke up and looked around me—
Babe, your mouth was open like a well.

I said, Baby! Baby!
Please don’t snore so loud.
Baby! Please!
Please don’t snore so loud.
You jest a little bit o’ woman but you
Sound like a great big crowd.

The theme of this poem is alchol use and hangovers. This poem could be considered a “blues poem” because it explains the taste of bad licker and the terrible feeling when you are drunk.
